Monologues of a Female NASCAR Fan with a touch of Hormonal Rants and Raves.
“Women can do what the guys can in this sport if they want to. I think we’ll see a female driver compete full-time at some point, too.” -DeLana Harvick

NASCAR is the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. There are other types of racing such as open wheel, touring and drag racing; but stock car racing is ultimately the largest organization of motorsports in the US. NASCAR runs three series of racing: The Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series and Craftsman Truck Series.
According to Wikipedia, NASCAR is the second most watched professional sport judging from television ratings ranking right after the NFL. (National Football League) NASCAR is broadcasted in over 150 countries and holds 17 of the top 20 attended sporting events in the U.S and oversees at least 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 states, plus Canada, and Mexico.

Out of the over 75 million fans, roughly 40% of NASCAR’s fans are women. Ironically though, NASCAR is a 100% male dominated sport. While there are women race car drivers in other associations and women running the business side of racing, women still have yet to break into the NASCAR realm of racing a car. It is speculated that the main reason women are drawn to NASCAR is the excitement of the sport and charisma of the athlete’s that are in the sport.

So how did I personally get into this fandom we call NASCAR? I honestly don’t remember a specific place and time; I just started watching it and liked the excitement of it and all that was going on at one time. It didn’t hurt that the men participating in the sport weren’t half bad looking either. (I’m a woman, can you blame me?)
It was 2006 and my boyfriend and I were living together and watching a lot of TV on the weekends to keep from going out to the bar or restaurant and spending our paychecks away. He watched NASCAR every weekend and I chastised him for it,
“How in the heck can you watch cars drive around in circles for hours on end?” That is honestly how I felt.
But what kind of horrible girlfriend would I be if I forced him to change the channel and watch “Spongebob Squarepants” with me? A very stereotypical one, so I did what I do best, I sat down next to him and watched cars drive around in circles for hours. It grew on me like a fungus.
First the liking turned into, “Oh I love the sound of fast cars zooming past and the camera shaking from the wind gusts” then it was “Kasey Kahne is pretty cute!” to “What time is the race on Sunday because I do not want to make any other plans and miss watching it!” to “How does the points system work?” It took me an entire race season to overcome my denial and realize I was hooked on watching it. So the story begins…
So do you want to know a little bit more about me? No? Well too bad! You can call me “Kitten”. Since this website does disclose personal stories and information at times, I would like a level of discretion. Plus, if I inadvertently offend a Jr. fan, I don’t want them to hunt me down and shoot me like Cabela’s “Big Game”
I don’t think I am your stereotypical race devotee. I’m a 24-year old city girl from Ohio. My father’s roots lie in West Virginia and my mother is from the Philippines. That would basically make me an Asian Hillbilly living in the city.
I honestly didn’t lead a hard life growing up. I went to Catholic schools from Pre-School all the way up until I graduated high school and got most of everything that I wanted in life as far as necessities. I went to a technical college and got my Associates degree in Computer Applications. That gig didn’t turn out too well career wise so I am currently working as an office assistant, Avon Lady, & sponsorship blogger to pay off some old debts so I can go back to college and get my Bachelor’s degree in either Web Design with a minor in Public Relations or an MBA in Marketing and Digital Communications. There’s so much I want to do left in life, it’s hard to come to a decision.
I haven’t been diagnosed with ADD yet, but the only thing that ever keeps my attention is creating things, if it be websites, graphics, putting Lego’s together…anything that has to do with making something, except babies that is (that’s after college.)
My de-stressor is writing. I will probably never make a career out of it unless some great opportunity comes along, but I like being able to express how I feel, good or bad. I never take things back, I may regret saying/writing things later on down the road, but if that’s how I felt at the time, why erase it? I would like to think I have a fun personality. I laugh and joke around a lot, and it shows once you start reading some of my entries on this website. It may seem like I have no other life beyond the computer, but I am still a broke college student and going on vacations every week is out of the question so this is what I do. I can only be me, and if nobody likes it, it doesn’t affect me.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by the site and showing your support. As my knowledge of NASCAR grows, so will my writing. I think that this website will be more interesting for me as I continue to learn and grow because I get to see my progress and maybe the progress of the potential female readers that are also getting to know the sport.
If you would like to know anything else about me or this site use the contact page. I’m always open to comments and suggestions about the content and design of this site. After surfing the internet for hours on end and researching the connection that women had within NASCAR and stumbling upon a few fan sites, I decided on “Lady and the NASCAR” from the title “Lady and the Tramp” a very classic Disney movie. I thought it fit my personality well and hopefully other women could relate to it. In the movie “Lady and the Tramp” you had this beautiful refined dog named Lady and she falls in love with this rough street dog that everyone called “The Tramp” They were considered a pair that you wouldn’t see together and with NASCAR being so male dominated, I thought the title fit well. Then after my blonde moment was over, I realized NASCAR was a trademark and I couldn’t title anything with the word “NASCAR” in it, so thus the site was renamed to “The Race Kitten Report” and I have been blogging full speed ever since.
This website is hosted by DreamHost. The domain was registered on March 13, 2008 and that’s when the physical website started to form. You will however find posts and entries dated earlier than that because I have been writing online since 2001 and anything that was related to this site was transferred from my other websites. The content is powered by WordPress and written exclusively by me. The current theme is pre-made with modifications made by me. The kitten logo/graphic is from WPClipArt. The Disclosure Policy is located on the contact page and was generated by DisclosurePolicy.org.
